The problems are heavily oriented toward the soil-water-plantatmosphere continuum. Unit 1 deals with water quantities and the hydrologic cycle. The treatment is excellent, but the experimental data are restricted to the USA. Unit 2 deals with water potentials. The treatment is thorough and the discussion on devices for the measurement of component potentials is extensive.

Unit 3 deals with water flow in the 'classical' manner. The text incorporates valuable assessment methods, graphs, problem sets, and tables from recent studies performed around the globe and offers an abundance of tables, photographs, and easy-to-follow equations in every chapter.

This book is not, in any case, in total defiance of the Wise Old Man's admonition, for it is not an entirely new book.

Article metrics. The treatment is thorough and the discussion on devices for the measurement of component potentials is extensive.

The intent is to encourage students to advance to the next level. SOIL physics, although a science having but few devotees, has grown up in two separate divisions, one dealing with soil as a habitat for plants and the other for large public buildings and roads, etc.

Reader-friendly and up-to-date, Principles of Soil Physics provides unparalleled coverage of issues related to soil physics, structure, hydrology, aeration, temperature, and analysis and presents practical techniques for maintaining soil quality to ultimately preserve its sustainability. This book grew out of a course taught to upper level undergraduate and graduate students from many different disciplines and backgrounds.
